World Creole Music Festival 2006 - Dominica

AfricaSounds presents a preview of the upcoming World Creole Music Festival which will take place the last week in October on the island Dominica.  We are extremely pleased to be able to share our experiences of our last cultural visit to Dominica with you.  We hope this feature and the many photos encourage you to visit the island and experience the hospitality of the people and its unique creole culture.  In addition to music festival, we aim to provide you with an insight into cultural attractions and lodging to assist you on your journey.

The World Creole Music Festival itself consists of three all-night music performances by a wide variety of creole & international acts.  Creole festival is really the climax of a week-long celebration of Creole culture in Dominca and the music is best appreciated in relationship to the culture from which it came.  In order to appreciate the culture better, try to take in the events leading up to the music festival many of which are pictured in our culture section below.   Our preview consists of three sections: (1) a preview of this year's music festival including highlights from previous years, (2) a section exploring the cultural side to Dominica including the island's incredible and untouched natural beauty and (3) several suggestions of possible accommodations and lodging options in Dominica to help you enjoy your stay.  We are also fortunate enough to be able to include a historical essay on the indigenous Carib people entitled "The Caribs of Dominica: Land Rights and Ethnic Consciousness" written by Ambassador Crispin Gregoire & Natalia Kanem.  To access each individual feature please click on the corresponding photo below.
