 |
| Nkul Naam productions a leading music
label for Cameroun music (particularly Bikutsi) and has become a major promoter,
producer and distributor for Cameroun music in France and Cameroun.
The Nkul Nnam music label has been at the forefront of introducing
Cameroun's Bikutsi music to a wider audience.
The music label was founded in 1994 by
Mr. Paulin Akoa, the principal promoter and several friends including
Mr. Atangana Zachari otherwise known as "Rasta" Zambo Benjamin and
Awoumou Ambassa. The first artist produced by Nkul Nnam was
Fam-Ndzengue whose album was entitled "Tourne Ampoule 100 Watts" who
remains the most experienced artist from his generation. The
specialty of this music label is Bikutsi music, which translates to "Hit
The Earth" in the Beti language from the center and south of Cameroun
which is also heard in Guinnée Equatoriale and the North of Gabon.
Interestingly enough, the some sounds are found in the Indian Ocean,
notably in Madagascar where it is called "Salegy" and in the Commores
Islands as well. Nkul Nnam has built up an impressive catalogue of
recording artists from Cameroun, with over 100 represented.
Indeed, all the big names of the genre have passed through the Nkul Nnam
artist staple and have been produced by the label. This includes,
but is not limited to, K-Tino, Bisso-Solo, Zelé, Nkodo Sitony, Owona
Anderson, Tap's, Richard Amougou, Princess Sophie, Cathy Chaise, Thierry
Fouda, etc..
INkul Nnam productions has
produced over 40 live concerts since 1999 including spectacles in such cities at
Paris, Lyon, Stasbourg, Geneva, Bale and Bruxelles. Most notably,
these live events have not been playback but rather live concerts with
full music bands. Highlights from these 40+ shows can be witnessed
in the concert flyer archive in this feature.
